Egba Day Celebrations

A major highlight of Egba Day is the recognition and honoring of outstanding individuals through awards such as Meritorious Service, Resilience Awards, and Egba Person of the Year; celebrating excellence, service, and impact.

 

Each year, this highly anticipated event has become a highlight on the cultural calendar of Winnipeg, Manitoba, drawing eager anticipation from residents throughout the region. It serves as a captivating showcase of the Egba people's rich and storied cultural heritage, spanning from the delectable local delicacies that tantalize the taste buds to the resplendent traditional attire that adorns the attendees. In essence, it is an opportunity for the Egba people to share the tapestry of their traditions with the broader community, a celebration of their heritage, and a bridge to connect the past with the present.

Tree Planting Exercise

The Tree Planting Exercise of the Egba Descendants Association is a purposeful expression of our commitment to heritage, responsibility, and sustainable development. As descendants of a people deeply rooted in history, land, and communal values, this initiative reflects our resolve to preserve today what tomorrow will depend on.

Each tree planted symbolizes continuity, resilience, and growth; values that define the Egba identity. Beyond its environmental benefits, the exercise serves as a bridge between generations, engaging elders, youths, and community members in a shared act of service. It reinforces the Association’s belief that true celebration of culture must include care for the environment and investment in the future.

 

Aligned with the vision of the Egba Descendants Association, the tree planting exercise goes beyond ceremony. Adire Night

Adire Night, hosted by the Egba Descendants Association, is a vibrant celebration of culture, history, and togetherness.

 

This event  highlights the rich heritage of the Egba people, showcasing the beauty and significance of adire—the traditional indigo-dyed textile synonymous with Yoruba craftsmanship. The night serves as a platform to promote cultural pride, artistic expression, and community bonding among Egba descendants and their friends.

Guests are adorned in stunning adire attire, reflecting the artistry of the fabric and its timeless designs. The event featured cultural displays, live music, fashion parade, and traditional dances that echo the rhythms and stories of Egba ancestors.
